Saskatoon:
We were driving along Highway 11 north towards Saskatoon from Regina, when, about 45 minutes outside of Saskatoon, a menacing group of clouds began to approach from the west. I got a little anxious, uncomfortable with driving through a downpour from the “living skies”, and crossed my fingers that it wouldn’t reach us before we got to Saskatoon. It was such a wild experience, to have blue skies and endless landscape to the right of us, and thick dark clouds and a white wall to our left.
Notice how the view of the land just kind of stops, and then it’s a white abyss beyond.
Fortunately, the storm blew northwest, and didn’t catch up with us until we did, indeed, get into Saskatoon. As we entered the city, highway construction prevented us from exiting at the right place to get to the hotel we had booked on Expedia, we had to improvise with a less-than-adequate map how to get where we needed. At one point the rain got so bad we pulled over. While we waited out the storm, I tapped our destination into Eric’s phone – which finally had service – to learn that we were close to the hotel. Once the rain let up enough, we followed the instructions and looked around for the Best Western in the location Google told us it would be; nothing but the Quality Inn. We kept driving, making a few more wrong turns, so I typed the address into Waze, and it, too, told us how to get to our hotel. We arrived at the same place, and again we couldn’t see a sign for the Best Western. We pulled around once more with the rain still coming down hard and decided to look for the address instead of the sign, and we landed yet again at the Quality Inn. I decided to go in and ask about it. The man at the front desk, wearing a Best Western shirt and lapel pin with a Quality Inn sign on the wall behind him, said that this hotel was the Best Western… until Monday, when it would become the Quality Inn. We were relieved to have finally found our lodging, but this may be very well be the only time on our trip (hopefully) that we’ll be checking in to one hotel only to check out of another!
lovely pictures … I believe they are shelf clouds
